The Latest From the Weavers

Home / Personal / The Latest From the Weavers

This weekend we announced what most of our closest friends knew, that the Weavers are leaving Vortex Church. We have always been willing to go wherever God has led, whenever he leads. Moving our family from Arkansas to North Carolina was no different. It has been a great year and we are leaving on good terms. I wanted to share a little about what this year has meant to us and what’s next.

So let me break this down a little…

First, I want to say thank you to our Vortex Family. I use the word family very intentionally because that is how we have been treated by the people who make up Vortex. In a small, rural, community where everybody is related, it is easy to identify the outsiders and that’s just what we were when God led us here. But in spite of that, the people of Vortex and Stanly County were warm and welcoming. They let us in, let us serve alongside them, and became our friends. We needed that. We had no intentions of leaving Jonesboro when we moved there, but again, we go where God says. We moved to North Carolina with the intentions of staying as long as God would have us here. We bought a house and we have loved our little town of Badin. We will miss our small group. These families have been absolutely wonderful to us and we’ve loved sharing our home and our lives with them. You guys know who you are and if I were handpicking a small group, you’d all be on the list!

Second, I hope everyone knows that our Pastor, Kevin Simmons, has been gracious to us. When we left Verge Church we were really burned out. Planting a church is hard, heck, ministry is hard and I had found myself in a less-than-healthy rhythm of life. I didn’t even see most of it, but Kevin did. He encouraged me to rest and get healthy and then he actually gave me the room to do it. That is so rare. We are healthier than we’ve ever been and positioned for a long and fruitful ministry. He was also generous with leadership and allowed me to speak quite often. He brought us in, vouched for us and now he is confirming and encouraging us as we step into the next season of ministry. We get to leave with his blessing. Thanks Kevin.

Third, we don’t know what’s next—at least not all of it. We do know God is calling us back to pastoring and leading a local congregation. We don’t know where we are moving yet. We plan to move back toward home (Arkansas), but God has not revealed that location just yet. We believe he is still preparing our destination and we are praying for clarity and wisdom as we make the decisions that are right around the corner. In the meantime, we pack and we prepare and we will have conversations with churches over the next couple of months. I can’t wait to meet all these amazing church leaders and see what God is doing.

Fourth, we aren’t out the door just yet. We intend to keep our kiddos at Badin Elementary through the end of this school year before making the transition. Obviously, we can’t control everything, but we value the hearts of our little ones and hope you will pray for them as they say goodbye to friends and look forward making new ones. We began to see God preparing their hearts over the last couple months even before we told them we were moving. So we intend to be here until summer, but we will begin the process of selling our house in Badin in the next few weeks. In the meantime, we look forward to serving with Vortex a little longer.

Lastly, a little of my heart… I grew up in church. My dad was a pastor and being in church from birth has had an influence on me that I can’t escape. Truthfully, I don’t want to. I love the church. I have planted two churches and I still believe in church planting. I have pastored an established church and I believe God isn’t done with established churches. I haven’t always followed God perfectly, but as I look back over the last 19 years of ministry, I have seen his hand at work. We are excited for what is next and love that we get to invite you into the process as you pray with us and then celebrate where God leads and plants us. This is going to be so fun. If you have any questions call, email or use the contact tab at the top of the page.

Glad your experience was healing. I know the Lord will go before you and lead you to a congregation and context where you will manifest Jesus
