We all desire to experience a full and satisfying life. Every single one of us. As followers of Jesus we believe that he came to give us an abundant life—a joy-filled life. So we all set out to find joy—to experience REAL LIFE. In Colossians, Paul says that since we’ve died to our old self and been raised to new life in Christ, our REAL LIFE is now hidden in him.
So if you have been raised with the Messiah, seek what is above, where the Messiah is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on what is above, not on what is on the earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with the Messiah in God. When the Messiah, who is your life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory. Colossians 3:1-4
Hidden? As in, God is concealing it from us? Nope. It is hidden, as in secured in Jesus. We are held secure in Jesus Christ and our REAL LIFE is only found in him. It is not found in this earthly life, in any relationship, or in any thing. That’s why verse 2 tells us to set our minds on “what is above, not on what is on the earth.” Because Jesus is, for now, hidden. We don’t see him, yet we believe. We do not yet see him, but we trust in him. And one day he will be revealed and our REAL LIFE will also be revealed. The truest you will be seen when we are all made new, but for now we set our sights and minds on Heaven.
If you intend to set out on a journey of self-discovery, make sure your destination is above. For real life, real happiness and real joy is found in Jesus. And don’t give up on this life, your relationships or your calling—God intended that those things would point you back to him. He holds you and he holds the future and he is the source of your REAL LIFE.
